ALVETA HOUSTON HAWK, FOUNDER, INDUCTED INTO ALABAMA BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS HALL OF FAME
The late Alveta Houston Hawk, founder of the now Boys & Girls Clubs of Hawk-Houston, was inducted into the Alabama Boys & Girls Clubs Hall of Fame, at a ceremony in Montgomery, AL, on August 6. The Club began operating June 1964, in the Baptist bottom neighborhood. Mrs. Hawk's wanted to give young black males a place where they could have constructive fun in a positive and safe environment.
